Basic Package of Health Services, BPHS

I mars 2002 intensifierade hälsoministeriet sitt arbete med hälsoproblematiken i Afghanistan. Efter ett år av diskussioner och överläggningar lanserades så standarden Basic Package of Health Services, BPHS. BPHS ger direktiv om hur vården ska bedrivas provinsvis, alltifrån enkla hälsokliniker, mödra- och barnhälsovårdscentraler till distrikts- och provinssjukhus. Både behandlande och förebyggande verksamhet ingår i standarden.
Syftet med BPHS är:
- tillhandahålla ett standardiserat baspaket för vårdinsatser som ska utgöra kärnan i all vårdrelaterad verksamhet.
- främja vårdinsater så att alla i de mest utsatta områdena ges samma tillgång och rätt till vård, baserat på befolkningsmängd. BPHS står för vårdinsatser på fyra olika nivåer: Distriktssjukhus, fullständiga hälsocentraler med möjlighet att ta sig an mer komplicerade sjukdomar, enklare hälsocentraler för basal sjukvård samt hälsokontrollstationer.

BPHS fortsätter att utgöra kärnstrategin i hälsoministeriets policy för nationell hälsa. I samarbete med hälsoministeriet, donatorer och verksamma NGO:er har BPHS i dag expanderat och når i dag 77 procent av Afghanistans befolkning.

Physical construction of Health facilities: One building in Maidan-shahr. Strong coordination was present between all stakeholders active in the province.
Involvement of National Solidarity Program (NSP) and Community Organization Unit (COU) in community based health activities.

Paktika BPHS project

Ministry of Public Health has announce call for interest for two clusters in Paktika province. SCA has shown its
interest for cluster no 6 of Paktika and submit a proposal for the said cluster. Location: South-East of the country
Total District: 6 ( Matakhan, Sarhawza, Sarobi, Zerook, Gomal and Barmal)

Duration of contract: 20 months

Total Number of proposed health Facilities: 6 (One Comprehensive Health Center Plus (CHC+), 1 comprehensive Health Center (CHC),4 Basic Health Centers (BHCs) CHC. The CHC plus will provide surgery services as well as comprehensive EmOC services and the remaining health facilities will provide basic EmOC services. There will be 50 health posts staffed with one male and female Community Health Workers (CHWs).
The main problems which will be addressed in service delivery are maternal mortality and morbidity, child illnesses, tuberculosis, malaria (mainly in Gomal) and malnutrition.
